More Engine and YJ Spare Tire - September 28, 2020
No huge progress since the last update - just a few odds and
ends:
1) I picked up an engine stand, so I could set the engine down on the floor and get the transmission attached. It bolts to the 2 motor mount locations.
3) YJ Distraction - Rear Tire Carrier
Some of you may remember that my tire carrier broke off in my driveway back in March. Since then, I've been carrying the spare tire in the tub, which has been fine.
But I picked up an old Warn tire carrier last week from a guy with an LJ. It's not perfect, but the price was right. (It was free, but I had to remove it from his Jeep)
I still need to convert the mount to my 5x5.5 lug pattern, but that should be pretty quick and easy.
And I'll have to fab up another center brake light to replace the one that I did back in June.

The next step is to weld up a frame and add casters, as shown in
the yellow parts below. This was done in Solidworks, just for
fun. (I found the model of the engine - that wasn't my
work!). I have all the frame pieces cut and just need to weld
it together.
The next step after that is to make a second frame to support the transmission and transfer case. The two frames will be bolted together, so I can move the motor\transmission\transfer case assembly around my garage as needed. Or I can also separate the two frame and move them around individually.
2) I also rebuilt the power steering pump with new seals and got it installed on the engine. It was actually pretty easy to do. The 2nd one would be much easier.
Next step is to put on the pulley and serpentine belt, which are
both trivial jobs:
