Engine Assembly - September 4, 2020
First, my daughter picked up her TJ, so that distraction is gone
(for the moment anyway :-)).
Second, I am still waiting on the damaged radiator to be resolved. UPS tried to pick it up, but I was at work - this happened 3 times. Griffin told me that I couldn't drop it off to UPS or have it picked up from my office because "I might damage it when moving it". I told Griffin that I would need to have a window or appointment for them to pick it up, but that message didn't make it to UPS or UPS ignored it. So, I'm still in limbo. It's not really holding me up right now, but it may start having an impact later this month.
There has been real progress over the past few days...the block was cleaned, masked, primed and painted:
Cleaned and masked:
Primed:
Painted with Dupli-Color Chevy Orange...I know it looks very bright, but 90% of it will be covered up by other components. I chose this color because it's period correct for the late 60s and early 70s, and I wanted to give a more traditional feel to the engine. If you hate this color at this point, please reserve judgement until everything is installed.
All the bolts and bosses were masked off:
The new harmonic balancer was also installed:

The valve covers are getting the same Chevy Orange treatment,
along with new gaskets, so they were removed.
Everything was very clean inside the engine:
Everything was very clean inside the engine:
95% of the valve cover will be covered by the coil packs, but I
still think it will look good:
The new harmonic balancer was also installed:
For comparison, here's a 1970 Camaro Z28 with the Chevy orange
engine color - it is a bright color!
More engine assembly to come!
