Distraction...YJ Console Cover - March 28, 2021
Back in 2013, one of the first mods that I did to the YJ was to make a locking
console out of a 40mm ammo can. It's documented on Jeep Forum, if you're
interested in the details

About 18 months ago, I purchased a leather sewing machine and have been playing around with it. Long term, I'll do some of the Jeepster interior parts - door panels, console cover, edging of the carpet, etc. (I probably won't try to make my own Jeepster leather seats - that's a big job.) A new YJ console cover is a great practice piece...
New foam base:
Leather pattern in posterboard. The finished cover will be in black
leather with red stitching to match the seats:
Leather pieces cut:
First side stitched:
Stapled down and finished:
Installed...it's not perfect, but it's good enough for my needs:
I may follow this up with a couple of matching leather shifter boots for the
YJ - that would be another good practice project:
Final update for today...the Bob Ross crockpot was used by my son to cook down
some kale:
For the cover, I quickly wrapped and stapled a piece of leather over a piece
of foam. Eight years later, that leather is scratchy and worn.
Since the seat covers are both new, I'd thought I'd upgrade it too.
