Jeepster Roller, Part 2

Jeepster Roller, Part 2

I've been putting in a lot of time on this, but it won't look like it based on the pictures.  Just slogging through it...

Upper Link

To get exhaust clearance, I first cut down the bracket.  It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the modified bracket is much smaller.  I also shortened the upper link by 1" for even more clearance.

Stock bracket on top.  Modified bracket on bottom.  It's not finished yet - I don't want to hear complaints about the jagged cut!

I had to cut out a weird overlap in the factory frame boxing, so I could get a nice flat surface to weld on:

Weird area cut out of frame:

1/4" Plate for mounting upper link and to re-box the frame:

The bracket extends over the frame to get more separation on the upper link.  The holes are for plug welds.  I'll add support/gussets to the back side of the bracket.

The bracket is oversized, so I can still move the upper link forwards or backwards for more clearance, if needed.  I'll cut it down smaller later, if necessary.

Clamped in place.  No picture, but it is now tack welded into place.  I'm using the middle hole for all my suspension calculations, so I can move up or down if something isn't quite right.

Front Shock Mounts

The front shock mounts got welded to the axle.  This part was easy to locate - just put it on top of the axle, as close as possible to the inner C.

Mockup with the rear emulsion coilover:

Good clearance from the shock to the inner C:

Both sides tack welded into place:

Steering

The steering parts came in.

Old wimpy Pitman arm and new beefy Pitman arm.  It was replaced because there wasn't enough beef around the old tie rod end hole to re-taper it for the larger GM tie rod end.

Next Steps

The Panhard bar parts are arriving early this week, so I should get that done in the next update.  Which will allow me to flex out the front and check clearances.

I need to re-taper the steering arm.  This will be more difficult than I thought - it should be in the next update.

The front shock hoops should also be installed in the next update.
