88 YJ-CJ Exhaust Part 2

Pate Swap Meet

Last weekend, I went up to Dallas to see my Mom for Mother's Day (a week early).  Being the great son that I am 😇, I took my mother to the Pate Swap Meet for about half a day to "celebrate" Mother's Day.

Pate is huge, but I didn't see much Jeep stuff.  The most interesting thing that I saw was a Willys Pickup.  I would have bought it, if I didn't have so many other projects.  It was in pretty solid condition.

Rubber isolator installed:

Rod bent to match pipe:

This tool is for removing the rubber bushings - it's indispensable.  Thanks Gordon!

2nd Hanger:

The start of the 2nd hanger:

Steel cut and drilled:

Rivnuts installed:

Test fit of the plate:

Marking rod location:

Rod welded to plate:

First hanger is on the left in this picture.  The 2nd hanger is on the right.

Rods cut and formed to pipe:

This old ladder bar bracket was in the way:

I'll cut the rest of the bracket off when I remove the axle - it needs several things done to it.

Perfect tool for the task:

I had to pull down the horrible brake lines that the previous owner installed - they were in the way.  They will all get replaced when the axle is removed.

The previous owner also added a leaf to the rear springs - probably to prevent axle wrap.  They just look horrible.

Start of the over the axle pipe:

Everything is tacked in place:

Muffler tacked in place:

Start of the over the axle tube:

Tailpipe and Hanger:

The tailpipe will be centered between the leaf spring and gas tank - it's a little too close to the spring in this picture:

The stock YJ tailpipe hanger is being used with a new, custom rod.  It is rusty:

Cleaning up the stock YJ tailpipe hanger with Evaporust - it'll get a fresh coat of paint:

Back of Muffler Hanger:

The hanger after the muffler uses the stock YJ muffler mount with a new, custom rod:

Another view of the mount behind the muffler:

I didn't get as far as I wanted to this weekend, but the exhaust is substantially complete.  I'm happy with the way everything worked out so far.
