TJ Engine Distraction, etc

TJ Engine Distraction:

I've been distracted from my other Jeep (and Jeepster) projects by my daughter's TJ with a bad engine.  It's got a 4.0l with a rod knock after 235k miles.

My Daughter's Poor TJ

I bought a used engine for her, and have been breaking it down, inspecting it, etc. It supposedly only had 100k miles. Based on the minor wear, I believe the miles. It wasn't without flaws, and buying a used engine is always risky.

After cleaning off all the old gaskets:

The actual TJ engine swap will take place over the next couple of weeks.

Interior Coating Removal:

I did find a little time for more rubberized coating removal. As before, the first step is stripper covered with saran wrap:

After letting it sit overnight, it was cleaned off with a putty knife and steel bristle brushes. Yes, this sucks as much as you think it does...

Passenger Side scraped off:

Driver's side scraped off:

Next step will be to finish the cleaning with scratch wheels, etc. The large wide areas are easy to clean - it's the inside corners and nooks and crannies that are difficult and time-consuming. But there's light at the end of the tunnel!
