More Driver Front Fender - May 11, 2020
Some minor progress:
0) The replacement wheel well lip is basically done. I need
to trim back the existing fender to match, and then weld in
the new piece. I don't have an original fender available,
so I just made the curve happy to my eye. I also made a
second piece to match for the passenger side fender, so both
sides will "match". They will likely be slightly different
than an original, but I can't imagine that anyone will ever
notice.
1) All 3 patches were trimmed to fit, and most of the remaining rust was cleaned with my awesome Harbor Freight Blaster. I also sprayed weld-thru primer on the 3 patch areas.
The Blaster works pretty well for small areas. I have $30 in this setup - $20 for the gun and $10 for a 50lb bag of media from Tractor Supply. I'm going to use it for the rest of the inside corners and difficult to clean areas on the fenders.
I was well on my way to doing some weld tacks, but I couldn't get the .024 wire to feed thru my liner. Bought a new liner, and will hopefully be welding sometime this week.
