3 Link Front - Upper Link Position - June 29, 2020
Design question for anyone with front 3 link experience...seems like there are two options for the upper link position:
Tall Upper Link Bracket on Passenger Side:
Upper Link on Truss on Driver's Side (track bar not shown):
Which option is better?
My thoughts:
0) I already have the brackets and truss to do it either way.
1) on the driver's side, the upper link has to clear the driveshaft. Since my Dana 44 is a low pinion, I don't think this will be an issue (it's an early Bronco Dana 44).
2) on the passenger side, the upper link has to clear the exhaust. And you have to work around the track bar bracket.
3) it seems like a truss is a good idea for either option. The Tall passenger side bracket could put a lot of stress on the single pumpkin\tube connection. All of the force is just on one side. With the truss, it would spread the load to both tubes more evenly.
4) I like the adjustable holes that you get on the passenger side bracket, but I'd like to be able to put the track bar bracket in the optimum location without worrying about the link position.
5) My general conclusion: since the truss is good for either option, go ahead and install the truss and do a driver's side bracket on top of the pumpkin.
This is the truss that I have from Clayton. It's not the beefiest truss, but it should be okay for 32" tires. It's made for a TJ, and I'll have to mod it to fit the Early Bronco Dana 44.
